You know that moment when you arrive in a place that looks very good, like a lordly house, and you wonder why there are no clients? Saturday at 6pm I arrived at Voilà and asked myself exactly that. I had even booked a big table, because I was afraid I won't find a table.
The place is special and you feel like you’re visiting your noble rich aunt. I enjoyed the feeling. The music volume is a bit low and you feel like disturbing someone if you speak louder. We were 8 loud girls. J
The menu is not always the same. Is that kind of place where the chef is cooking depending on the fresh ingredients that he finds and inspiration. So the menu is written with white chalk on a mobile blackboard. I was the first to arrive and I was greeted by a very smiley waitress which led me to the table and offered to bring a menu for me to read.

There were a lot of things that sounded nice: caramelized cauliflower – with butter, cheese and herbs (28 lei), goose soup accompanied by ravioli with basil and liver (17 lei), risotto with goose and cep mushrooms (40 lei) and so on, pretty much mouth-watering. Unfortunately I had already eaten but fortunately the girls were coming: Adina, Ale, Ina, Mimi, Alice, Roxana, and Georgiana. Is impossible to present each one of them shortly but certainly we all love food. In fact, I guess all my friends love food!
"Everything was right, but is so sad when the food sounds really good and the taste doesn’t meet the expectations."
The girls arrived shortly after and started ordering. Some of everything! So I had the chance to taste soup, cauliflower, halloumi en papillote (34 lei), even some pan fried veal liver with salad (32 lei). In short, nothing impressed me. Everything was right, but is so sad when the food sounds really good and the taste doesn’t meet the expectations. I was trying veal liver for the first time and it seemed a bit chewy. I don’t think it’s supposed to be like that. The soup was just a soup. I expected some flavors besides the strong goose taste. The halloumi was nothing special.
"Maybe the chef was tired or still hangover after the New Year’s Eve."
After I tasted everything and drank 2 glasses of Prosecco, 20 lei each, I kind of figured out why the bistro was so empty. I liked so much the place and its potential and I believe I will come again for a drink. I only hope that the food is usually better. Maybe the chef was tired or still hangover after the New Year’s Eve.
