I used to go out in the 3-4 places I was used to. Now, since I started the blog, I feel like it's my duty to try new places. Not that I wouldn't love to eat out. I'm happy that now I also have an "excuse".
I was coming back from the office one night and I decided to clear my head by going out to eat. I chose Sardin, because it's near my home. I went with Vlad. I've been to Sardin once before, about one year ago or so. And I remembered the starters on the house, which felt generous and delicious. Of course I remembered the location too, which was superb.
I found the place unchanged, very welcoming this time also. It was kind of empty; I believe that there were two tables occupied. I was welcomed by a friendly waiter. We chose a table that made taking a picture of the whole place easier. The decorations were on the DYI trend, but with premium design. From the ceiling hang some lamps made out of glass bottles of different dimensions, on a wall there were oars, on another one rolling pins, you get the idea. Sardin is a restaurant with Mediterranean cuisine and they pride themselves with fresh catches but also with seasonal ingredients.

I got Baccala Morbido (69 lei), meaning a morbid cod. I'm joking, it was a cod fillet with squid, olives, tomatoes and pepperoncino. And a side of chips. Just to have it there! Vlad, on the other side, doesn't really fancy fish, so he got a sirloin with grilled veggies and mashed potatoes. I believe it was 90 lei, but I didn't find it in the online menu. Then the starters came pretty fast. The waiter was very agile, especially since we were among the few clients. Sometimes that's not exactly a good sign. Because he offered us his undivided attention, if you get what I mean. If you don't, then I'll put things in words as nice as I can. I felt like the whole night it wasn't just me and Vlad at the table, it was like we were three people dining. He was trying to be polite, but too present, he was there the whole time.

Back to the starters, they were as good and as consistent as I remembered them to be. They serve some deep fried meatballs with rice, small breads, olives and bread sticks. Very tasty. I was almost full from those. After the starters, I was already relaxed. Between the starters and the main course I looked around a little, to admire the decorations. But surprise! After the starters I knew, we got another snack: beef tongue, which we didn't touch because... beef tongue. And fennel with orange, an interesting combination.
My cod was pretty good. The fries were really tasty and lots, surprisingly. I also had a taste from Vlad's sirloin. That didn't impress me either. It wasn't anything special and it was a bit too "rested" for me, meaning it was almost cold. Overall food was good, but I always compare price and quality. And here the prices seem unjustifiably high for an ok product. For that price they have one would expect exceptional food. I remembered why I haven't been there in one year. Because even back then, I left the place with the same feeling, unconvinced and unimpressed.

We also got dessert in the end. From everything they had, we liked the idea of XXL apple tart with homemade ice cream (40 lei). The pie was indeed XXL, same was the ice cream, which was placed like a small tower. It was a serving for at least four people. We managed to eat the whole thing, because it was really good.
You can go to Sardin for the special decorations, starters and the XXL pie.
