I don’t know how others are, but I cook a lot for Christmas. It’s the only time of the year when my fridge and freezer are used at maximum capacity. And when I have my fridge full, I really don’t feel the need to eat out. But I’d been waiting for so long to go to Mésange Fromagerie and, between Christmas and the New Year’s, I finally made it! I cheated on my fridge, what can I do?
I read an article about this place, in which they talked about the types of cheese they have and about the menu in which the cheese is the star. On top of this, Gabe and Rux told me the food is incredible there. Short intro for Gabe and Rux: Gabe eats healthy, so when he wants to “cheat”, he makes sure it’s worth it. And Rux just loves cheese.

When I went there with Vlad (you know Vlad from my previous posts, I hope), I also called them. I couldn’t find a menu online, so I didn’t know what to expect. I knew how the place looked like from photos. As soon as you step in, you can just feel the hands of some talented architects. Mésange Fromagerie has a Scandinavian look and feel to it - minimalist and friendly. The cheeses are exposed in glass fridges and you see them from the get-go.
The staff is also very friendly. We laughed and joked with almost everyone. Vlad ordered a cappuccino and the guy that brought it apologized for not knowing how to draw in milk foam. But he also said that he hoped it tastes great. This kind of interaction makes me want to come back again and again in places. :) I decided I will also talk about how good is the coffee in the places I go to. I think it’s important, especially in places that are good for brunches. Vlad is my coffee expert. And the expert has decided: the coffee is good. Don’t be fooled my the lack of milk foam drawing. :p

We all admired their water glasses. Gabe said they are from Ikea, I was convinced they weren’t. We asked one of the guys and he told us they are from England and that they’re counted. So if one disappears. They’ll know who did it. :))
At the Fromagerie they prepare 3 types of soups everyday and you have to ask what they have that day. Same goes with the main course. But everything is cheese based. Besides these, they have sandwiches, trays, croques and salads. I love Croque Monsieur and you can’t find it anywhere, so I went for the Croque Mésange (32 lei). With Gruyère, bread with seeds, roast beef and a side of salad. You can also add an egg to the whole thing (+2 lei). It was delicious! The cheese is really the star. I’ve had Gruyère before, but this was special. The sandwich was crisped to perfection and I appreciated the roast beef as opposed to some meat bought from the corner.
Vlad got a mushroom cream soup with brie and quattro formaggi pasta. Of course I also ate. Really good! A cream full of flavors and a velvety texture. I’ll add extra cheese at home also. The quattro formaggi was a bit of an overkill. You can’t eat the whole portion. Even though they are really good, the combination is too “heavy”. The conclusion is that you can’t eat two dishes here, because the cheeses are a bit too much. If the pasta was a bit lighter, I would have been impressed. So remember, people, order just one dish!

I also tasted Gabe’s tomato soup. Don’t remember what type of cheese had in it. I liked it, but the mushroom cream is a winner.
The only annoying thing in the location was the music, which seemed from a different world. They couldn’t find something that goes well with the fanciness of cheese. But, happily, it’s not very loud and you kind of forget about it at some point.
I will come back to Mésange Fromagerie with great pleasure. Don’t rush over though, I want to find a seat. :)
